3 Ways to Save $$ and Fuel While Boating

Updated: Apr 24, 2019

Texas is starting to warm up and that means it's time to dewinterize your boat and get out on the water! Before stopping by the pump though, check out these tips to help you save money by making your boat as fuel efficient as possible. Happy boating!

1. Clean the Hull

Keeping your hull clear of debris like caked on sand, mud and grass can help prevent drag and keep your engine working efficiently. If your engine isn't having to work as hard, you're getting more bang for your buck with your fuel. Check your hull and propeller for detritus every month or so.

2. Lighten Your Load

Remove any tools, old anchors, ropes or other unneccessary objects from the boat. The more stuff onboard means more weight which increases drag, how hard your engine is working and the amount of fuel you're using.

3. Optimize Passenger Positioning

Try to evenly distribute the weight of your passengers throughout the boat. The engine runs most efficiently when closest to its at-rest waterline and isn't leaning. It can make a big difference!
